Scope
On the ongoing scheme for Sainik School Affiliation, the Defense Ministry said on Saturday that the response of schools in 13 states and union territories to the scheme has been weak and a proactive campaign is needed in this matter.
These 13 states and union territories are Goa, Manipur, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Tripura, West Bengal, New Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar, Chandigarh, Lakshadweep, Puducherry, Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir, the ministry said in a statement.
According to the statement, “It has been observed that private or non-governmental organizations from Goa, Manipur, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Tripura, West Bengal, New Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar, Chandigarh, Lakshadweep, Puducherry, Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir While the participation of government schools has been low, there is a golden opportunity for the governments of these states, union territories to establish Sainik Schools in their area.
The Union Cabinet had in October last year approved a proposal to set up 100 recognized Sainik Schools under the Sainik School Society in partnership with states, NGOs and private institutions.
230 schools sent applications
According to an official statement, these recognized schools will function as a special institution and will be quite different from the existing Sainik Schools of the Ministry of Defence. Around 230 schools from different states have sent their applications to affiliate themselves with the Sainik Schools Society, the statement said.
Once schools submit their application forms, they will be evaluated by a school evaluation committee at the district level and the report will be submitted to the Sainik School Society by the last week of January. According to the Defense Ministry, the schools affiliated to Sainik Schools Society will start following the syllabus and activities of Sainik Schools from the next academic session (April 2022). This course will be applicable to students of class VI and above.
Separate instructions will be issued to the recognized schools on other aspects related to school management, such as training of teachers and implementation of sports and extra-curricular activities, the statement said. The ‘Sports’ policy will also be implemented, so that they can focus on at least one sports discipline identified for the respective state.
‘One school, one sport’ policy will also be applicable on new schools
